Andy Warhol

Welcome to my blog to those who are new and old! Today, I will be giving you a school set fact file of Andy Warhol. Enjoy!

Andy Warhol (1928-1987) | Coke Bottle | 1960s, Paintings | Christie'sAndy Warhol is known debatably as the best pop artist in the world ever. He was born in Pennsylvania 6 August 1928 to the name of Andrew Warhola to parents from around where Slovakia is today in Europe. A year later, the moved as a family to New York where they settled down for a nice normal life. Andrew or now Andy, began a career in illustrating adverts in fashion magazines. Many heard of his talents and offered him work before he decided to quit and start afresh in painting freely with no instructions. He was fascinated by Los Angeles, beauty and things that were growing to be modern at the time.

Possibly the most famous painting Mr Warhol painted was named 'Marilyn Diptych'; a painting of 25 almost identical images of the famed Marilyn Monroe along with another 25 to the left in black and white and no colour but shading. It was painted by Andy in 1962 as he was inspired by Marilyn's features.Another extremely famous painting was actually a print of Campbell's soup - a popular bran of soup in America that is still sold today! He printed the same can of soup over 30 times but all with the different flavours of soup that Campbell's sold. Fun Fact! Andy ate Tins of  Campbell's tomato soup everyday for lunch for over 20 years straight. Wow!

All in all, Andy Warhol was a unique character with a unique style that influenced pop culture to be more expressive like it is today. His style is also very difficult to replicate. I however, will certainly be trying to draw tins of Heinz Baked Beans very soon!
