Day 49 Lockdown - Round the world

Iranian Teenager Alireza Firouzja Shocks Chess World, Beats World ...
Alireza Firouzja in deep concentration

Round The World

Welcome back! Today brings something slightly different blog. I will be telling you 5 different facts from around the world. Enjoy!

  1. In Hallormsstadur Forest, Iceland, people are being advised to hug trees instead of others. The forestry service in Iceland says people should hug trees during the Covid-19 outbreak. They say that it is a great alternative to hugging people, which is not allowed. Rangers in the forest have cleared snow to form paths that lead to the trees so peeps can get closer to them. Forest manager Thor Thorfinnsson said, "You get such a good relaxing feeling."
  2. In California, USA, bears are having a party without humans. The bears in Yosemite National Park have found a new sense of freedom while the park is closed to visitors. The park is home to 300-500 black bears that are roaming free because of the Covid-19 outbreak. Katie Patrick, who works at the park, says that the bears are having a 'party' and have been walking on roads and pavements since they are empty.
  3. In France, a teenager from Iran defeated the chess world champion Magnus Carlsen. The 16 year old Alireza Firouzja played against Carlsen in the final of the Banter Blitz cup on 15th April. Carlsen has been champion since 2013 but did indeed admit that the teenager was 'devilishly tricky' to play against. Alireza became a grandmaster in chess when he was 14 years old!
  4. In Greece, there has been new homes for child migrants. On 15th April, 12 unaccompanied children from migrant centres have been flown to new homes in Luxembourg. Many of the children fled from war and violence and many of the children were originally from Syria or Afghanistan and were mostly aged from 11-15. There are plans to give another 1,600 children homes to those who need them. There are around 5000 children living in in camps.
  5. In Egypt, Tutankhamun's golden coffin is being restored as best as possible. When he was 9 years old, king Tutankhamun became pharaoh in 1333 BC. He was only 18 when he died and he was buried in Egypt near where he was born. His tomb was was found in 1922 along with his golden mask. A museum is being built and is due to open next year with the mask.

Day 48 Lockdown - Murderer's Talk

End of the Road' is Just the BeginningMurderer's Talk

Welcome! Today brings yet another piece of school work, which is related to previous, that I have created. Enjoy!

'Who's next then?' the Roadrunner thought to himself as he pause the spinning wheel of the car that he killed his last victim in. 'Ahhh. You I guess!' he thought again as another car passed round the bend. He made the natural hitchhikers sign for needing a ride. "I need a ride," the mysterious Roadrunner said the the sweet man as the car rolled to a stop at his feet. Did he really want to end this man's life?
"Are you alright? I can take you to the station up the road?" the driver said reaching for the door handle.
"You're so very kind helping me out like this, kind sir!" the Roadrunner replied jumping into the seat.
"My name is Bodie and I'm happy to help!" Bodie told the murderer. "Were you in that when it..." started Bodie.
"Crashed? You bet I was! I black out and then wake up to find you offering me assistance!" Roadrunner finished, smacking his head lightly with the palm of his hand.

Further on in the short journey, Bodie asked multiple more times if the murderer was ok but something in the roadrunner had changed. It was as if his enthusiasm was stripped from him along with his voice. Once more, Bodie asked how he was. "My dear pal, are you ok? You suddenly seem a little off." The Roadrunner just turned and looked at Bodie. And you'll never know what he saw because seconds later, he was lying at the bottom of a canyon underneath his car dead. The Roadrunner looked along the road for his next victim.

Day 47 Lockdown - Andy Warhol

Andy Warhol CAMPBELL'S SOUP CAN 11.46 – Gallery Pop

Andy Warhol

Welcome to my blog to those who are new and old! Today, I will be giving you a school set fact file of Andy Warhol. Enjoy!

Andy Warhol (1928-1987) | Coke Bottle | 1960s, Paintings | Christie'sAndy Warhol is known debatably as the best pop artist in the world ever. He was born in Pennsylvania 6 August 1928 to the name of Andrew Warhola to parents from around where Slovakia is today in Europe. A year later, the moved as a family to New York where they settled down for a nice normal life. Andrew or now Andy, began a career in illustrating adverts in fashion magazines. Many heard of his talents and offered him work before he decided to quit and start afresh in painting freely with no instructions. He was fascinated by Los Angeles, beauty and things that were growing to be modern at the time.

Possibly the most famous painting Mr Warhol painted was named 'Marilyn Diptych'; a painting of 25 almost identical images of the famed Marilyn Monroe along with another 25 to the left in black and white and no colour but shading. It was painted by Andy in 1962 as he was inspired by Marilyn's features.Another extremely famous painting was actually a print of Campbell's soup - a popular bran of soup in America that is still sold today! He printed the same can of soup over 30 times but all with the different flavours of soup that Campbell's sold. Fun Fact! Andy ate Tins of  Campbell's tomato soup everyday for lunch for over 20 years straight. Wow!

All in all, Andy Warhol was a unique character with a unique style that influenced pop culture to be more expressive like it is today. His style is also very difficult to replicate. I however, will certainly be trying to draw tins of Heinz Baked Beans very soon!

Day 46 Lockdown - Murderer!

Road's End (S) (2011) - FilmaffinityMurderer Character description

Welcome to my blog to all people! Today brings a new piece of homework that my school has set. As you can tell by the title, it is a character description ergo it won't be very long. Anyway, enjoy!

Tassels of his bandana tickling the wind, the shady character halted a spinning wheel. His wasteland-like appearance startled many with his blood stained, fabric clothing, the sort of stuff you would buy from a costume shop. He looked the grimy sort though not a stench could be smelt from the mystery man. Though his hair was short and messy, it still blew wildly in the breeze of 1890 America. He gained looks from the people who passed him and refused to offer help. Along with his sketchiness, few people knew of his name; those who did know what he did were too scared and frightened to report him. Or they were dead. His rusty goggles, through the eyes of a normal person, were impossible to see through. A dirty cotton trenchcoat that ran down to his feet, hid that of the treacherous weapons of torture strapped to a normal looking grey sweater. The trenchcoat was slightly too short however, revealing a pristine white and brand new watch that was clearly out of place. The shady character was always sporting lare bits of rough fabric on in his hands that resembled a pair of gloves. Who was his next driving victim?

Day 45 Lockdown - The legion of Warships

What is Google Keep and Why Use it in Your Writing? | WordDreams...

The legion of Warships

Welcome! Today brings a message for everyone about battle ships, not just the contenders in my league. Anyone can play with these rules or you can make up your own. Just follow along especially if you are in my league because this is what you need to know. Enjoy!

My mum sent out a text asking friends if they wanted to join a battleships league that we would like to set up with them. Sixteen people agreed and so we had a league.

There are 4 mini leagues, each containing 4 players, who throughout the week will each play 3 games. Whoever comes out top of the league will move into the semi-finals. Names will be drawn out of a hat to decide who plays who in the semi-finals.

After those games, most likely on Sunday, two finalists will fight it out in the last game of the week. Then the winner will receive the fabulous prize of bragging rights, for winning the first mini season of  the "Legion of  Warships" (LOW).

Here are the rules:
  • A battle ships grid will be given via a link that you will need to print out.
  • You will need to be in contact with your opponent in any which way you would like.
  • The youngest player will always start first.
  • Use the insides of the squares not the lines.
  • You have 6 ships:
    • 1x Aircraft carrier (AAAAA),
    • 1x Battleship (BBBB),
    • 1x Cruiser (CCC),
    • 1x Submarine (SSS)
    • 2x  destroyers (DD) (On the grid, it only has 1,  you have 2)
    • The letters represent how many squares each ship will need to use. You put the letters in a line wherever you want on the grid
  • You CANNOT put ships in a diagonal lines.
  • Ships CANNOT be touching -  They have to be at least on square away.
And there you go! Here is a link to the grid. Go to Battleships-Grid  and download the 10x10 Grid.

Day 43 Lockdown - Trampoline skills

Trampoline skills

Welcome to my blog to everyone reading! Today I will be sharing with you many good skills on the trampoline to make you a jumping whizz. Enjoy!

1) Sit jumps
Sit jumps are when you bounce as high as you like, come down and land in a sitting position before bouncing back up. It may not sound hard but there are many dangers including bouncing too close to the edge meaning that you might bounce off the trampoline or scrape you head on the netting which is oddly painful. Great for beginners.

2) Knee jumps
Almost exactly the same as sit jumps but with more dangers. Clicky knees, like mine, can make it super painful when you land on your knees. It is advised to wear thicker item of clothing on your knees than say a t-shirt. Great for beginners.

3) Back drops
Back drops are my favourite type of bounce because it sort of feels like you are weightless and able to throw you body around just like that. To do it, it involves jumping up and down on your feet or standing still and lifting your legs and feet into the air so that you will bounce on your back. Then, you would bounce back up and do whatever you want. It also like a half backflip ergo that's why the name starts with back. Great for amateurs with high skill.

Doing all three of these skills can bring great pleasure but also pain. Do be careful when jumping!

Day 42 Lockdown - Poems

Poems that don't make sense

Welcome to my blog! Today I will be sharing with you two acrostic poems that don't entirely make sense.  I was tasked this by my school and just for confirmation, I am not a poet. Enjoy I guess!

Alex is the nifty name of the game,
Leadining himself into trouble that makes him go slightly insane,
Except when his composure is kept; that keeps him sane.
X-ray vision has never been given,

Rather be useful on a mission,
Idiot Blunt and assistant Mrs Jones,
Don't even crack a smile or flinch,
Even when Alex is in a bit of a pinch.
Rider is the name of the game; it kinda runs in the family!

And number two....

Crooked jaw, nose and face,
Riddled his way up into the place,
Only to be punished for is waste.
Crooked jaw, nose and face,
Only to have changed his ways,
Desmond McCain; #1 crook,
Instead known as the holy one.
Little does he know Alex Rider's on the case,
Enhancing up a little chase.

Tortured and drugged, Alex Rider faces death,
Eaten by crocodiles or shot in the chest.
Alast, Alex's great saviour comes along,
Rahim has come again,
Sadly shot in the head.

Day 41 Lockdown - Wii Fit

Wii Fit

Welcome to part 2 of this wii series1 Today, I will tell you about a different game that you could play on the Nintendo Wii and stay fit and healthy. Enjoy!

In Wii fit, you require a balance board and at least 1 wii remote. There are many different game modes to play to help you get better at things like balance. There are 4 different types of exercise games: Balance, yoga, muscle workouts and aerobics. My favourite game mode is balance because there are so many fun things to do like walking a tightrope and doing headers in a row without missing. In aerobics, you can choose what to do between jogging, rhythm boxing where you punch along with a rhythm, hula hooping and step aerobics. In hula hooping, as you can tell, you have to make the hoop go around your body as many times as you can before the time is up. My record is 1857 in total. If you have a wii, can you beat that? In yoga, a body coach will take you through the steps to do a yoga move before you try it out yourself and in muscle workouts, you do the same but with more intense exercises. Here is a picture of a Wii fit game..

Day 40 Lockdown - Wii

The Way Wii Were: Growing Up With Nintendo's Gaming Phenomenon ...Wii

Welcome! Today, I will share with you the power of the Wii; a Nintendo created item to bring fun games and exercise inside. Let me tell you about Wii games...

On Wii resort, there are 12 different mini sports you can play - my favourite is table tennis - including frisbee dog. The most popular sport is sword fighting which is kind of like fencing. There are actually 3 different modes you can play which are: Duel, Speed slice, Showdown. In duel, you and another person will fight it out to push the other off the platform. In speed slice, one of two people will be the first to slice the object in the correct way and the first person to to reach 10 points wins overall. In showdown, you will have to take on a number of of computer bots of a variety of levels until you reach the end. There are 10 levels and then 10 bonus stages you can get after you complete the first 10 which get super hard. Next up is table tennis. You or/and one other person can participate in a match in which is first to 6 points unless the score gets to 5-5. Then you would carry on going until one person got 2 points ahead of the other. The other option of playing is a one player mode where you simply have to return as many valid shots as possible with the extra of cans that count as 3 shots. Moving on; basketball. In the first mode, you and/or one other person can play a match against one another on a time limit. There are many useful tips like if you dribble for long enough, you can score a slam dunk but only if you are in a fully blue area. The second game mod is a bit like the second table tennis one. One person tries to score as many hoops as possible but from different angles. Every 5th ball is a double ball meaning you get double points for that shot. Come back tomorrow to find out about Wii Fit!
