The Falkland war
Part 4: Last stretch
Finally, I have finished this long blog! It feels like this is endless! Today is the final episode of this mini series. Hope you enjoy!
The 14 hour battle for Goose Green commenced on the night of May 28th. That conflict ended with a decisive British victory with more than 900 Argentine conscription troops who couldn't face death surrendering, proving to be one of the largest mini war surrenders in history.
5,000 British troops from the 5th Infantry Brigade then came to push their country to the capital - Port Stanley if you remember! A series of hard fought battles on and around hills and mountains by the city left Britain almost impossible to defeat. Argentina had to retreat back to Stanley even though their position there was being shelled from offshore cannons on the Royal Navy boats. The S.A.S troops squeezed in on all sides, just like Nazi Germany had done in WWII at Dunkirk.
Utterly surrounded, on 14th June 1982, Argentina surrendered to Britain. The war was over. The Falkland war lasted over 2 months and claimed hundreds of lives. 255 British troops were killed and 775 more wounded. 649 Argentinian men and women had lost their lives and 1,657 more were injured.
Argentina still claim the islands to be theirs, but in 2013, a vote was held to see which country the islands supported. Britain dominated over Argentina, having 1513 votes in their favour to Argentina's 3 (Ha Ha!). 99.8% of the people on the islands voted for Britain. Wow! Oil was also just found near the islands so the Brits won't be giving the Falklands up any time soon!

Very interesting.
